The Birth of SweetRock
Our History ...

You may remember Marlyn and Rob from another local band called Whiskey Ridge, a country / rock band that played around the Medicine Hat area for 3 years. It was a really great run, but unfortunately, as with most good things, it eventually had to come to an end. Due to conflicting schedules that just didn't allow the time it takes for rehearsals and show dates, Whiskey Ridge was finally forced to disband. They played their last show on December 17th, 2011 at My Office Pub. Which, ironically (for those of you who are keeping up ... lol) is also where SweetRock debuted in 2012.

Knowing full well that Whiskey Ridge was slowly becoming 'extinct', Marlyn and Rob had talked for some time about beginning another project. Marlyn simply mentioned the idea to long time friend and high school colleague, Don Schneider, and he was jumping on the idea! Don had previously played and toured with other bands, his last project being Psycho CirKiss, a Kiss Tribute Band, and was looking forward to starting something new. So, all that was needed was a kick-ass bass player, and enter Pat "Swayze" Lessard (Who previously played with the bands Legacy and Black Tooth Grin). In joking, about 3 years previously, Pat had said to Marlyn "If you ever need a bass player, I am there for you". It was a funny statement at the time since Marlyn was a country singer and Pat had always been more of a heavy rock player. But with the direction SweetRock seemed to be taking, Pat seemed like a perfect fit. One phone call, and the first rehearsal date was set.

SweetRock was born with no boundaries. No boxes or expectations of any kind. We are a group of musicians who love to play, and who love all that music has to offer, regardless of genres, old or new, or flow of set lists. If a song grabs you and you find your foot tapping or it makes you want to get up and dance, play or sing, then it is a song that we have probably added to our set list. No rhyme, reason or style. But then again ... that is kind of a personality trait that each of the members possess individually as well!
