Have a song request that you would like us to perhaps learn? We can't promise that we will, but send us your request and we will definitely see what we can do! When asked to write a bio about himself for the website. "Are you kidding? My bio ... legend that will last a lunch time." ~ Don Schneider, SweetRock I am flattered to have been the woman to have opened the door for female rockers to be accepted into the mainly male industry. ~ Suzi Quatro |
Band / Bios All For The Love Of Music ... SweetRock was born with no boundaries. No boxes or expectations of any kind. We are a group of musicians who love to play, and who love all that music has to offer, regardless of genres, old or new, or flow of set lists. If a song grabs you and you find your foot tapping or it makes you want to get up and dance, play or sing, then it is a song that we have probably added to our set list. No rhyme, reason or style. But then again ... that is kind of a personality trait that each of the members possess individually as well! To find out how SweetRock was formed, read "The Birth of SweetRock" on our home page. Member Bios Marlyn Quast-Frank - Lead Vocals Music runs in Marlyn's family. Many of her cousins as well as her grandparents, were all very musical along with her brother, (Brock T. Quast) who performs locally and in the US throughout the winters. Before the SweetRock project began, Marlyn previously played in a 4 piece country/rock band called Whiskey Ridge (for three years), along with SweetRock drummer, Rob Malek, and 2 other very talented musicians, Doug Riley and Aaron Dirk. Due to conflicting schedules that just didn't allow the time it takes for rehearsals and show dates, Whiskey Ridge was finally forced to disband, and they played their last show in December of 2011. Although Marlyn has been singing for about 20 years, her main focus in the past had been assisting other talent find their place in the industry. Marlyn has worked with some fabulous song writers and producers across Canada and in Nashville by teaming them up with local artists. But eventually, like her brother, her love of singing beckoned and she found herself center stage. Rob Malek - Drums, Vocals Bio coming soon ... Don "Lizard" Schneider - Lead Guitar, Vocals When Don Schneider started playing guitar at 15 years old, he quickly discovered a natural ability to play original, heartfelt licks on his twenty-five dollar Kent electric. He played his first gig in 1977. In 1982 he left “The Hat” to begin touring as a professional musician with several different heavy metal bands. Don quickly became known for his ability to quickly fit into any band as a lead guitarist, and developed a reputation as a dependable, “hired gun” for any rock group who needed a guitarist on short notice. In 1986 he moved to Ontario to tour with a band called Crackers, a popular rock/novelty act in the Hamilton/Burlington area, with two albums to their credit. In 1988 Don received a diploma in Recording and Engineering, which gave his live performances added dimension because he better understood the meaning of “quality sound”. Between 1989 and 1996 he began a heavy touring schedule in Western Canada. For fifty out of fifty-two weeks a year, he played with a band called the Lizard Brothers, a classic rock band known for their heavy Beatle’s influence. Don took a break from touring in 1996 and settled back into The Hat. After a nine year hiatus, Tim Herman kicked some Lizard ass and told him to start playing again, and in 2005 he formed two new duos: The Replacement Parts (with Jim Baxter) and The Chameleon Brothers (with Tim Herman). Within one year of coming out of retirement, both bands were pre-booked for a year and half. Don's latest project was Psycho CirKiss, a Kiss Tribute Band, along with Gary Straub, Paul Schile and Dennis Ledarney, which folded in 2010 when Dennis moved East.
